Environment Agency tenders £8m flood defence barriers contracts

The Environment Agency has gone out to tender with two separate contracts for flood defence barriers with a potential combined total value of £8 million.

The Agency is seeking to improve its incident response capability by increasing its stock of temporary flood defences which can be used in a variety of flooding incidents and will form an essential part of the Agency’s  flood incident response. The equipment will be stored at a network of depots distributed around England.

The contracts are for the supply and delivery of temporary flood barriers consisting of metal frames with impermeable membranes or sections spanning between them, with a minimum barrier height of 1.8 m and 1m respectively.

One contract is for the supply of between 0 km and 3 km of  flood barriers with a minimum barrier height of 1.8 m at an estimated value of up to £2 million, the other is for the supply of between 5 km and 15 km of flood barriers with a minimum height of  1m with an estimated value of between £2 million to £6 million.

The successful suppliers will be required to supply all fittings, fixings and consumables to enable what the Agency describes as "uncompromised deployment and operation of the equipment throughout its life."

The contracts are primarily intended to meet the needs of the Environment Agency – however, the Agency may require the successful bidders to provide the goods/services on the same terms agreed as a result of the tender to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and to its associated bodies.

Time limit for receipt of tenders or requests to participate is 5th October 2015 – click here for the 1.8m barrier tender, click here for the 1m barrier tender.
