Crown Commercial Service to host webinar for public sector water buyers

The Crown Commercial Service is hosting a webinar tomorrow for water buyers who want to find out more about the £960 million public sector retail water framework the CCS has put in place.

The CCS is inviting registrations for a water webinar it is holding tomorrow at 2.00pm - Water and Wastewater Framework - Accessing the Water Retail Market.

The webinar will provide an overview and explanation of the framework’s aims, guidance on how to prepare an organisation to enter the open retail market, and details on how to use the framework and drive value.

The overall objective of the day is to ensure water buyers leave the webinar armed with all the practical advice and information needed to run an effective and successful further competition.

The CCS said buyers can expect to learn:

  • How the water market is reorganising and the drivers behind this
  • Benefits of the RM3790 Water and Wastewater framework agreement
  • How to prepare your organisation to enter the retail market
  • What to consider when planning your further competition
  • How the procurement partners running the framework can assist you

Last week the CCS released details of some of the companies appointed to the framework agreement for the supply of water, wastewater and ancillary services to a wide range of public sector organisations following market opening for competition on 1st April.

The framework agreement will run for 3 years, with the option to extend for a further 12 months. Customer call-off contracts can take place any time during the framework period and be let for up to 4 years maximum.

The CCS has collaborated with YPO, Eastern Shires Purchasing Organisation (ESPO), North East Procurement Organisation (NEPO), West Mercia Energy, The Energy Consortium and the Ministry of Defence to bring to market the largest public sector water framework agreement in the UK.

The CCS has also issued guidance for public sector organisations to see how they can choose the supplier of their water, wastewater and ancillary services.

Benefits of changing supplier flagged up by the CCS to prospective users of the framework include:

  • consolidated billing, electronic billing and enhanced frequencies
  • consumption and billing data
  • financial savings from the supply margin
  • better customer service
  • rationalising the supplier base to one for organisations with sites in multiple regions
  • streamlining billing and administration

Services the CCS says customers will be able to access from retailers in addition to water supply and sewerage services include:

  • automated meter reading goods and services
  • water audit
  • water footprint
  • leak detection and repair
  • cost/spend recovery
  • bill validation
  • benchmarking
  • tariff optimisation
  • legionella services

Sam Ulyatt, Strategic Category Commercial Director for Crown Commercial Service commented:
