Northern Ireland Water has further extended the deadline to tender for a contract for leakage detection services worth an estimated £15 million for a second time.
NI Water intends to supplement existing in-house resources for the detection of the unreported leaks in the water distribution network via the contract. The original deadline of 11th August was put back to 18th August earlier this month – this has now been further extended to 29th August 2017.
Interested suppliers will now also be able to bid for up to 4 Lots under the contract, instead of 2 Lots as set out in the original tender.
The water company has had an active leakage control policy for many years, together with a Leakage Business Plan to take forward leakage activities.
The utility said that external assistance in detection activities will be required for the next 6 years to meet targets in relation to both leakage reduction and maintenance.
Initial contract period will run for 3 years with an option to extend by 2 more annual extensions.
