Anglian Water has gone out to tender with a contract for its smart metering network programme worth an estimated £230 million.
The contract will cover the supply of water meters, communication equipment in boundary boxes, and data services via a communications network on an agreed frequency across Anglian Water's household customers within its operating region.

The water company is looking to award a framework agreement to at least 2 bidders for the supply of meters, communication devices, network and data services (data for period 2020 to 2040).
According to Anglian Water, the key benefits the Network Programme will deliver include:
- enable the company to achieve leakage and consumption savings in the order of 52 MLD by 2045 closing deficits by demand side controls and behavioural change. In turn this would avoid large capital expenditure on supply side projects
- provide the means to enhance the impact of water efficiency measures linked to installing first time meters in an area facing a water deficit in the future
- establish Anglian Water as the leading exponent of smart metering in the UK,
- identify customer side water losses and thereby enable customers to reduce their bill.
Estimated duration of the contract is seven years.
Time limit for receipt of tenders or requests to participate is 8th November 2019 – click here to access the tender documentation.
