The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy has gone out to tender with a contract for a scoping study in the form of an holistic assessment of agriculture and land use strategies to achieve net zero worth an estimated £240,000.

The research study aims to identify current evidence in the land use and agricultural sectors in the UK , and evidence gaps in order to frame and develop a much larger programme of research.
It will also set out the available options to achieve net zero (or better) in agriculture and land use within the constraints of government's legal requirements, policy ambitions and aspirations.
The aim of the study is to assess the implications of these potential solutions to identify which pathways are most acceptable to policy and public.
The outputs of the scoping study will be used to inform the development of a much larger, multi-annual cross Defra/BEIS research platform ( to be separately tendered) to further develop evidence via targeted primary research, and the development of new data sets, tools and integrated models.
Time limit for receipt of tenders or requests to participate is 1st April 2022 – click here to download the tender documentation.
