SGN Commercial Services (SGNCS), part of the SGN Group, is seeking supply chain input via a Request for Information on Green Gas Solutions from bioresources.
Headquartered in Horley, near Gatwick, SGNCS works with its customers across their asset lifecycle, managing, constructing, operating & maintaining and on some occasions financing biomethane related assets and activities.
The company’s current biomethane portfolio includes Waste Water Gas to Grid Frameworks with Thames Water and Yorkshire Water.
In January the company announced that green gas from sewage will now be used to heat and power homes in West London with the successful commissioning of SGN’s gas-to-grid project at Thames' Mogden Sewage Treatment Works (STW) in Isleworth.
The collaboration between SGN and Thames Water will see biomethane created from sewage exported through the gas network as the plant ramps up to full capacity in the coming weeks and months. Six million cubic metres of methane is expected to be produced annually – enough to heat 4,000 homes in the area.
The new biomethane gas-to-grid plant follows a similar SGN installation at Thames’ Deephams STW site in 2021 which delivers green gas to 3,500 homes in Enfield.
SGN Commercial Services was awarded a position on an eight-year framework in 2021 to design, construct, operate and maintain biogas processing installations at Thames Water’s wastewater treatment facilities, with an estimated contract value of £70 million.
In July 2023 the company signed 15-year agreements worth £20 million with Yorkshire Water to design, develop and operate biomethane gas-to-grid plants at two of its wastewater treatment facilities. SGN Commercial Services’ partnership will see sewage treatment process waste converted to biomethane at Yorkshire Water’s Knostrop and Blackburn Meadows sites.
From 2010 until present, the company has successfully invested, supported and enhanced over 30 gas to grid projects throughout the UK, delivering biomethane projects at all scales within the South of England and Scotland.
Green Gas Solutions have significant Fund, Design, Build, Operate and Maintain frameworks for clients predominantly in the Waste Water Treatment sector, and specialise in biomethane blending.
SGNCS’ future ambitions include increasing its investment in Biomethane assets to increase volumes of 'renewable green gas' (Biomethane) into the UK gas network.
SGN CS is currently developing its category strategy for its Green Gas Solutions portfolio including:
- Professional & Design Services
- Civil Services
- Mechanical & Electrical Services
- Environmental & Planning Services
- Personal Protective Equipment
- Construction Site Services.
The current biomethane portfolio also includes 11 Gas to Grid sites - operate and/ or maintain - 5 in Scotland and 6 in Southern. The company also manages a Biomethane Injection hub at Portsdown Hill.
Green Gas Solutions are looking to invest heavily in gas to grid, including funding, designing, building, operating and maintaining of up to 44 gas to grid sites by 2035.
