SES Water is seeking supply chain input ahead of going out to tender with a £30 million contract for smart meters and associated services. The water company is inviting interested suppliers to complete a questionnaire and company level PQQ.

SES Water has published a Periodic Indicative Notice (PIN) setting out its intention to procure AMI meters and associated services and systems to deliver a smart metered network in its area from 2024 and into AMP8 completing its delivery by the start of AMP9.
The PIN covers the provision of smart water meters (household and non-household) and associated services for customers throughout SES Water's geographical area.
The water company says it is aiming to set up framework agreement(s) with reputable partner(s) with a proven track record of providing Smart Network Services to support with its move to Smart Metering. This will support the delivery of SES Water’s AMP8 2025-2030 plan and into the delivery of our AMP9 2030-2035 plan.

The requirement covers the following services:
Lot 1 Supply of smart meters with Head End system
The AMI meters required are concentric type in various sizes, inline internal meters and for non-household applications up to 50mm. The total number of meters to be provisioned are 265,000 estimated with a split of 80% for external meters.
Lot 2 Network Services Provision
Covers provision of IOT network, fixed network or WAN providing data as a service to an agreed SLA regime across the whole SES Water customer base.
Lot 3 - AMI Meter Installation and exchange services
Provision of AMI Smart meter installation (approx10%) and meter exchange (90%) programme with total volume estimated to 265,000 meters
Lot 4-Smart Meter maintenance services
Lot 5- Meter data management software system
To receive meter data and insights for collating and analysing meter data in support of the AMI contract. Provision of MDMS system which is agnostic to different meter brands and has ability to do basic data validation and present data insights with respect to continuous flow, usage , trends, network and device health parameters and other added value information in dashboard/ graphical or other user-friendly interface.
SES Water says it is open to the option of a relationship with a single supplier. Where a partnership, alliance or similar is required to deliver the end-to-end service requirements, SES Water will require a lead bidder to be identified. Suppliers are able to bid in multiple partnerships or as an independent bidder for one or more lots.
The water company expects to go out to tender with a formal contract notice in July 2024.
