The Department Of Environment, Food And Rural Affairs (Defra) has issued a Prior Information Notice notifying potential suppliers of an upcoming project which aimsto identifyand generate pragmatic, robust and proportionate economic methods for determining economic benefits for individual flood and coastal resilience and adaptation actions.

According to Defra, this will be achieved through the following objectives:
- identify weaknesses and gaps in current methodologies for assessing the economic benefits of different flood and coastal resilience and adaptation actions and work underway to address these
- develop quick wins for generating new robust project economic appraisal guidance and produce interim guidance
- implement solutions to fill gaps in economic methods through the Flood and Coastal Innovation Programme projects
- apply the methods to the Flood and Coastal Innovation Programmes to generate an assessment of the economic benefits from resilience and adaptation actions delivered by the projects
- update interim user guidance with new methods which are suitable for appraisals following the HM Treasury Green Book
Defra expects to go out to tender with a formal contract notice at the end of May.
