Mott MacDonald has published the second edition of its Water Utilities Little Black Book – an invaluable reference guide for anyone working the UK water sector on an array of cost and carbon issues in the run-up to AMP6.
The new 140 page edition has been fully updated to cater for the latest data-enabled best practices and estimating techniques used in the sector, as well as the growing focus on sustainability and emerging BIM technologies.
Mott MacDonald’s book provides a range of cost and carbon models, updated with the latest data from the consultancy’s dynamic cost database, that represent the vast majority of the material assets being proposed in the AMP6 Business Plans.
The book also contains a summary of cost and carbon models, benchmarking information and a range of case studies demonstrating the breadth and depth of associated commercial data Mott MacDonald can apply to any water utility project.
Additionally, the guide sets out an array of projects typically undertaken in the water companies’ investment programme and clearly illustrates the embedded and operational carbon costs which now underpin the water companies’ approach to their everyday business operations.
Water utilities projects generate a considerable range of diverse building, civil engineering and other specific construction activities. The Little Black Book points out the need to assemble various cost and carbon data for the different ranges and to classify and present the information in a meaningful and effective manner – which requires a collection of charts in order to display the more basic available cost and carbon information.
The charts are required to be supplemented by a schedule of further information sheets which can be used for projection purposes and to allow for an informed consideration in respect of each of numerous enhancing factors. These factors enable adjustments to be made to each activity, for example; in the light of possible competition, the availability of resources, regional location, management, supervision and general working and site conditions, to mention just a few.
The latest edition of the Little Black Book demonstrates Mott MacDonald’s breadth of knowledge, rigorous analytical approach and thorough grasp of the carbon issues for the sector.
