Fall in revenues at Speedy Hire

Tool hire specialist Speedy Hire has reported a £2.3m loss for the six months to 30 September 2011 and falling revenue with the publication of its latest financial results this morning. Exceptional items moved Speedy into the red – it would otherwise have posted a pre-tax profit for the period of £2.8m.

May Gurney acquires transport business

May Gurney, the support services company providing essential maintenance and enhancement services to the public and regulated sectors, has acquired TransLinc, a market leader in the UK's £730 million per annum local authority specialist fleet services and £3 billion local authority passenger services markets.

Water industry regulator Ofwat has set out its approvals process for charges from 2012-13 onwards.

Massive drop in profits at Munich Re insurers

One of the world’s leading insurers has posted a massive drop in profits - attributed to the difficult environment on the financial markets, problems in Greece, currency translation effects and heavy burdens from natural catastrophes.

The Environment Agency is starting work this week on the £1.2 million flood defence improvement scheme at Braunton in Devon to reduce the risk of flooding in the village.
