More than 350 people who use water but have never received a bill are set to have their previously unpaid charges waived after coming forward voluntarily in the first week of Thames Water's amnesty for unbilled customers.

Defra publishes infrastructure risk reports

Roads, railways, energy and water supply networks and other infrastructure all need to be able to cope with the effects of a changing climate. The first batch in a series of reports produced by organisations which maintain national infrastructure and published by Defra today set out potential risks and solutions – with flooding, coastal and river erosion among the key risks.

 

 

According to new research from the Construction Sector Skills Council, as many as 76,000 jobs could go in the construction industry during 2011.

Staffordshire County Council has commissioned coastal and rivers expert Royal Haskoning to help it prepare its Preliminary Flood Risk Assessment (PFRA).

Southern Water has announced that its reservoirs are in a healthy position at the start of 2011.

Yorkshire Water is starting work on the latest phase of £16.7 million mains upgrade to improve Sheffield’s water pipe network.

Major flood defence works in Wales completed

Environment Agency Wales has completed a programme of major improvement works to upgrade local flood defences. The Agency said that thousands of people in four North Wales villages would now be better protected from floods. 

Today WaterBriefing is  publishing an Executive Briefing on what has been described as the "biggest change in responsibility for sewerage services since 1937" – the forthcoming transfer of responsibility for private sewers and lateral drains to water and sewerage companies.

Communities in the North East will benefit from a £2.4 million package of schemes to help to protect them against the risk of flooding.

York to get new £16M Water Treatment Works

Yorkshire Water has announced plans to build a new water treatment works in York. Planning permission for the development, which will be constructed within the boundaries of the existing works off Landing Lane in Acomb, was unanimously granted at a York council meeting last Wednesday.
