Redditch company fined for river pollution

On Wednesday 27 August 2008, FormFin Limited of  Merse Road, Redditch pleaded guilty at Redditch Magistrates Court to polluting the Blacksoils Brook and River Arrow.

Ofwat has concluded that overall “there is little difference between the capital costs of conventional and advanced digestion treatment technologies” being used to treat bioresources.

A Stratford company that processes animal bi-products has been prosecuted for discharging toxic levels of contaminants into the sewerage system.

Defra publish revised nitrate regulations

Defra has published regulations extending the areas of England designated as Nitrate Vulnerable Zones (NVZs) from 55% to around 70% - reflecting the Government's decision to continue designating the zones on a selective basis rather than adopt the whole territory approach of some Member States.

Defra criticised for failing to manage budgets

The House of Commons Public Accounts committee has criticised Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) for failures in its report on how Defra manages its expenditure, concluding that policy and operational delivery within the Department and its delivery bodies have been adversely affected by financial management failings.

Failing to adhere to a condition of its licence cost Scottish Water £2,500 at Stirling Sheriff Court on Tuesday 2 September 2008.

Ofwat has granted Independent Water Networks Limited (IWNL) its third inset appointment which will enable the company to supply water to a new development of 162 homes at Great Billing Way in Northampton.

According to a new European Commission survey, Europeans are highly concerned about climate change and clearly willing to take action against it.
The Government’s plans for ten eco-towns have been referred for judicial review following a successful application to the High Court last week.

Scottish Water has welcomed the report by the Drinking Water Quality Regulator (DWQR) which confirms that the overall quality of drinking water in Scotland has continued to improve.
