A high-level roundtable on water innovation and regional cooperation in the water sector is due to take place in London next week under the auspices of the Anglo Israel Association, together with the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies.
Following a welcome address by Lord Bew, Chairman of the AIA, Eitan Na’eh, Acting Ambassador for Israel to the UK, will formally open the 7th Ambassadors’ Roundtable, which is being held at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office’s Lancaster House.
The opening session will examine the topic of solving water crises from water scarcity to water surplus. Prof. Paul Whitehead, Professor of Water Science at the School of Geography and the Environment, Oxford University and Prof. Eilon Adar, director Zuckerburg Water Resources Institute, Ben Gurion University will speak about water resources in the Middle East, including Israel's surface and ground water resources and Israeli water management and policy on overcoming water scarcity.
Other sessions will look at water resource management in agriculture and the use of irrigation technologies and techniques for arid zones. Innovation in water and wastewater treatment in the context of desalination technologies and effluent reuse, together with public-private partnerships for water infrastructure development and energy efficiencies in large scale water infrastructure will also be covered in the day-long roundtable. Oded Distel, Director of International Investments, Israeli Ministry of Economy is one of several expert speakers in the session.
Regional water management –specifically water agreements between Israel and Jordan and Palestinian Authority – are also on the agenda. Attendees at the roundtable will hear from a formidable line-up of expert speakers and benefit from a number of networking opportunities during the roundtable.
