Working in collaboration with the University of Sheffield, the Future Water Association has announced a set of training modules designed specifically for companies operating within the water and waste water sectors.
The Association, one of the UK’s leading trade organisations representing companies from across the supply chain, said innovation plays an important role in futureproofing business, especially within the water sector where innovation is vital to keep the industry competitive and working as efficiently as it can.
The modules, entitled “Clear Ideas For Innovation”, have been designed and developed by Dr Kamal Birdi (Institute of Work Psychology in the Management School, University of Sheffield), a leading expert on organisational innovation.
The University of Sheffield's interdisciplinary water research centre is dedicated to continuing a highly collaborative and innovative approach to solving major challenges in the water sector.
The first module is a two-day course that will help participants achieve a greater understanding of the different aspects of the innovation process - from identifying problem causes, to setting radical versus incremental goals, to generating and selecting creative new ideas, and to overcoming obstacles to putting new ideas into practice.
Participants will also develop their practical skills by identifying problems of relevance to their own organisations and working in teams to produce innovative solutions to them. Subsequent modules will focus on management of innovation projects and understanding how to market innovation within the UK water industry context.
Paul Horton, CEO of Future Water Association, explained the significance of thee new training modules:
“Our partnership with the University of Sheffield was established in 2015 as part of our organisation’s goal to become the UK’s representative for innovation within the water sector. Our “Innovating for the Future” roadmap is the tool we use to explain how instrumental new ideas and new ways of thinking are to protect the future of the UK’s water industry. We are excited to launch this new training module and even at this early stage, we have received a lot of interest”.
Dr Vanessa Speight of the University of Sheffield added:
“These training courses are a great opportunity to bring innovation management techniques from other sectors into the water industry. We are excited to be working with the Future Water Association to support innovation and collaboration across the entire water supply chain.”
