This week saw the start of Future Water’s series of events for Networks November 2024 - Having the Honest Conversation which is focussed on fostering open dialogue and addressing key challenges for the UK water sector.

A webinar on 5th November kicked off the latest event series, providing an introduction to the critical conversations shaping the future of our water networks under the theme "Having the Honest Conversation."
The discussion on the current state of the UK’s water infrastructure highlighted key risks and opportunities for improvement. The session set the stage for a deep dive into the essential topics Networks November 2024 will be addressing throughout the month.
It also covered the further development of the Future Water Report Card with a Risk Register version to provide a structured framework for addressing emerging risks head-on a risk register assessing current and future water infrastructure challenges.
The comprehensive evaluation in the Report Card encompasses diverse areas of asset health, leakage, sewer issues, research, people and innovation. The A*- F grading system is intended to convey how well the Future Water Association community thinks the sector is doing in each area.

The Report Card categories and ratings are as follows:
- Mains leakage - C
- Asset health - D
- People - C/D
- Sewers maintenance - D
- Customer side leakage - D
- Innovation - C/D
- Research - D/E
- Sewers (operation capacity, CSOs) - E
The event series gathers stakeholders from across the water supply chain, including regulators, government officials, and water companies.
Subsequent events tackle critical issues like leakage and metering, exploring the latest technologies to reduce water loss, and discuss Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) to ensure a more inclusive industry amidst significant workforce changes.
Industry experts will address reputation management and public relations to maintain public trust, and the month concludes with a technical session on data monitoring and Combined Sewer Overflows (CSOs), presenting innovative solutions to complex sector problems.
Overall, Networks November 2024 aims to drive collaboration and innovation towards a more sustainable and resilient future for the UK water sector.
