Water is used around the world for the production of electricity, but new research results show that there will not be enough water in the world to meet demand by 2040 if the energy and power situation does not improve before then.

The Mayor of London is warning that the city is set to exceed its record level of population within months and risks losing its position among the world’s elite cities unless a major programme of infrastructure investment is put in place to allow the capital to continue to operate efficiently and successfully.

An application by Celtique Energie to create a temporary exploratory hydrocarbon (oil/gas) site to test drill for shale oil on land near the village of Wisborough Green in West Sussex has been turned down this week by  West Sussex County Council. 

Utilities experts from the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) are already exceeding their Ministry of Defence ‘green’ targets to reduce water consumption on the UK military estate – conserving water resources and saving money for the taxpayer.

London has been ranked 15th amongst the world’s most water stressed cities in a new study of more than 500 cities globally.

According to data released by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration today, the globally averaged temperature over land and ocean surfaces for June 2014 was the highest for June since record keeping began in 1880.

The House of Lords has launched a new inquiry into EU Regional Marine Co-operation and is calling for the submission of evidence from a wide range of stakeholders, including energy developers.

The United Kingdom’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office has launched a new map to show the impact climate change could have on the whole planet by the end of the century if carbon emissions continue to increase.

The Met Office is joining experts from around the world this week at the 7th International Scientific Conference on the Global Water and Energy Cycle.

The Department for Food, Environment and Rural Affairs and the Welsh Government have published a summary of responses to the consultation on reform of the abstraction licensing regime which highlights a number of key issues over proposed changes.
