Robust Copa distributors for Wessex Water

Wastewater treatment technology and solutions specialist Jacopa has won a contract from Wessex Water to manufacture, install and commission two of its robust Copa syphonic distributors, including variable speed hybrid distributor drives at its Salisbury wastewater treatment works.

DBA-NEW-1416J Filter DistrThe treatment works is located at Petersfinger, on the outskirts of the historic city of Salisbury and serves a population of over 50,000 people. The distributors for the site will be designed for a maximum flow of 75.77 litres/sec each and can serve a maximum bed diameter of 50m. The design is simple and robust and the distributors are engineered to provide a long and functional life with excellent distribution under low-flow conditions.

The Copa design is renowned for the exceptional levels of treatment it provides. The drives offer a mechanically safe and simple way to control the rotational speed of filter bed distributors eliminating the final gear drive and thus providing a built-in overload device to prevent damage if the arms are stopped at the periphery for washout or because of obstacles in the beds.

Jacopa Managing Director, Alex Lloyd said:

“We are delighted to have won this contract with Wessex Water, our Copa distributors are highly regarded throughout the UK water industry and their sturdy design means they will continue to deliver great treatment for many years to come.”
