Scottish Water starts £3m upgrade for Cambuslang and Rutherglen

Scottish Water is investing £3 million in Cambuslang as part of works to upgrade the waste water network and reduce the risk of flooding.

Two projects are being carried out by Scottish Water’s alliance partner aBV which involve relaying the sewer network and upsizing the sewer network to increase the capacity of the pipes and reduce the risk of pollution to the nearby Eastfield Burn.  The Dukes Road project will also address historical flooding issues - the solution also involves the construction of larger combined storm overflow chambers.

An initial section of work which the involved construction of a new combined storm overflow (CSO) and removal of an old CSO to help protect the environment and the Eastfield Burn has already been completed.

Work on the next section which involves diverting the existing water main and other utilities to the location of new sewers ahead of upsizing the sewer pipes is beginning this week.

Scottish Water Project Manager John Townshend said:

“These are significant projects to help protect and enhance the environment. They involve increasing the capacity and improving the performance of the existing sewer network.

“When complete the upgrade of the waste water network will clean up the waters and reduce the risk of pollution to the Eastfield Burn.”
