Severn Trent begins £1 million pipe upgrade project in Stoke on Trent

Severn Trent is investing more than £1 million to replace ageing water pipes in Etruria, Stoke on Trent.

The works will see over 2km of older water pipes replaced, ensuring a more reliable and resilient water infrastructure for the area, and is part of the £41 million which Severn Trent will be investing in renewing water and sewage pipes across Stoke over the next four years.

Rachel Lowe, Community Communications Officer, said:

“As the pipes in our network age, they can become more prone to things like leaks and bursts, which can impact peoples’ supply and can result in inconvenient but necessary roadworks to make a repair.

“We’re aware there have been a number of bursts in this area and so we’re replacing some of our older pipes. This will mean our network is in the best possible condition and is ready to meet future demands like climate change and a growing population.

“By completing this work, we’ll also be saving 40,000 litres of water a day.”

The project necessitates some lane closures and roads made one-way to traffic during the works due to the location of the pipes to be replaced and to ensure the safety of the teams delivering the project and other road users.

Rachel Lowe added:

“By renewing the water infrastructure we are hopeful that our engineers won’t need to return to make repairs in the future.”

The works began in February and are expected to be completed by November 2023.
