Anglian Water and Cambridge Water are encouraging local communities to have their say on a proposed new reservoir in the Fens before the third phase of consultation closes on 10 December 2025.

The latest proposals include an updated design for the reservoir, as well as further information on the infrastructure needed to fill the reservoir with water, treat it, and supply clean water to customers. A series of materials to explain the proposals are on the project website: www.fensreservoir.co.uk

The new reservoir is a major investment in the fastest growing region in the country, and one of the key focus areas of the Government’s growth ambitions. As well as helping to ensure a resilient water supply for decades to come, the new reservoir will create jobs and economic opportunities during construction and beyond.

Anglian Water and Cambridge Water are committed to developing the reservoir in a way that delivers lasting benefits for the region – a new destination where people, nature, and water can come together.

The water companies unveiled updated proposals in October and have been engaging with local communities and stakeholders through a series of events across the local area. Over 800 people have attended the events which has been invaluable in helping Anglian build understanding of what matters most to the communities affected by the proposals. The consultation has also ensured that local voices and insights continue to be at the heart of the development of the project.

Geoff Darch, Head of Strategic Asset Planning at Anglian Water said:

Local people and other stakeholders have an important role to play in shaping how the project is developed so it best serves the needs of the region. “This consultation is the opportunity for people to provide feedback on the features they would like to see included in the reservoir and what impacts our proposals could have, so we can assess ways to mitigate and manage them.”

It’s been good to meet members of local communities in recent weeks and hear their comments. We’ve had hundreds of people attend to discuss our proposals with our project team and our new 3D model has also generated lots of discussion. We’d encourage everyone who’d like to have their say to give their feedback before the consultation closes.”
