Two joint ventures have won the race to be design-and-build contractors on Thames Water’s £3 billion AMP6 alliance, according to reports.
It is understood that a Skanska/MWH/Balfour Beatty JV and a partnership of Costain/Veolia/Atkins have been successful in bidding for the programme.
The winners have been selected from the shortlist of five, which Thames drew up last month, though originally the contract was going to be shared by four contractors.
The joint ventures to miss out are the GMM JV (Galliford Try, Morrison Utility Services/Mott MacDonald); the Tamesis Plus JV of Laing O’Rourke, Imtech and Barhale; and a partnership between Murphy Group, Black & Veatch and Aecom – MBVA JV.
The alliance will plan and construct schemes for Thames Water’s investment programme for 2015-2020. As well as the design/build contractors, the alliance board will be made up of a programme manager, technology and innovation provider, and a representative from Thames Water.
It has also been understood that MWH has been chosen as programme manager, beating CH2M Hill and Amec to the position.
AECOM and IBM are vying for the technology and innovation provider spot.
The working principles of the company’s AMP6 alliance represent a big change from past delivery models. They include a joint team working with an integrated supply chain, boosting safety and efficiency and making sure solutions delivered are sustainable and value for money in the future.
The AMP6 alliance will get involved early in shaping Thames Water’s business plan for the next five-year period.
Under Thames Water’s new delivery model, potential suppliers will have the opportunity to gain up to 12 years of work if they align effectively with the alliance’s shared values and business objectives.
Thames Water has declined to comment on the reports but an announcement is expected later in the month.
