Scottish Water has gone out to tender with a contract for the provision of sludge and waste services worth up to £31 million.
The water company is looking to appoint up to 50 suppliers to the framework agreement, which has an estimated value between £20 million to £31 million. Scottish Water wants to appoint a sufficient number of contractors within each Lot to ensure service provision in all 4 geographic areas (generally North, South, East and West).
The contract, which covers the provision of sludge treatment, transportation, recycling/utilisation and other waste services across the Scottish Mainland and Islands, is divided into the following four Lots:
Lot 1: Wastewater sludge treatment, transport and recycling services (£12m to £20m)
Lot 2: Water sludge uplift, transport and recycling services (£4m to £8m)
Lot 3: Skips, containers and other waste collection and recycling/disposal services (£2m to £3.6m)
Lot 4: Supplementary water and wastewater liquid sludge tinkering (£1.4m to £2.4m)
Duration of the framework is intially 4 years with the option to extend for a further 1 + 1 years, with a maximum duration of 6 years.
Scottish Water said it is willing to consider both conventional and innovative operational methods for all the Lots which should also address the related long term energy and carbon footprint issues.
