Thames Water has extended the deadline to tender for the contract to design, construct and commission a new Sewage Treatment Works (STW) in Guildford worth an estimated £80 million in total.

The water company has put back the time limit for receipt of tenders or requests to participate from 9th April 2020 to 27th April 2020.
The scope of work includes:
- full design including development to support TW obtain planning permission
- activated Sludge Process (ASP) – complete new build
- gravity fed tunnel to defined corridor connecting to inlet pumping station
- connection to existing sewer network
- commissioning of new STW
- de-commissioning of existing STW
The new works is intended to replace the existing STW - the relocation is part of a complex major project which will benefit both the water company and Guildford Borough Council. The works occupies a site that the Council wants to redevelop to provide additional local housing to achieve part of its planning objectives. The contract also covers de-commissioning the existing plant.
Thames expects to award the contract by May 2021 with the project is required to be complete by December 2025.
