Tidal Lagoon Swansea Bay, developer of the £1 billion Swansea Tidal Lagoon scheme, is to retender the main £300 million marine works package after parting company with preferred bidder China Harbour Engineering Company.

Both NWG Business Ltd and Thames Water Commercial Services Ltd have applied for water supply and sewerage licences ahead of the non-household retail market opening for competition in April 2017.

Scottish Water has gone out to tender with a sewage treatment works contract worth up to £30 million.

The majority of households in England would welcome choice over their water retail supplier but expect competition to deliver significant bill savings, the Consumer Council for Water (CCWater) has revealed.
