The Anaerobic Digestion and Bioresources Association (ADBA), the trade association for the UK’s AD industry, has unveiled its global trade show – UK AD & Biogas 2016.
Building on the success of the UK event and taking place at the NEC Birmingham, UK, on 6-7 July 2016, UK AD & Biogas 2016 is now taking on an international focus.
Reflecting the phenomenal growth and success of the UK AD industry, the free to attend, two-day event has grown by 560 per cent over the past six years. This year it takes a significant step forward, having been rebranded as the world’s first trade show dedicated to anaerobic digestion (AD), biogas and related bioresources.
For the first time in its history, UK AD & Biogas 2016 will showcase not just the best of the UK’s AD sector – which is still growing at a pace – but also the largest and fastest growing AD markets around the world.
Building a world class AD industry
With the global AD sector rapidly increasing in value, building a world class AD industry is now top of ADBA’s agenda. As such, a key focus of UK AD & Biogas 2016 is the promotion of best practice to increase operational performance and improve health and safety standards worldwide.
Other key themes to be covered at the event include:
- different AD technologies and process efficiencies in use worldwide;
- the market drivers for AD growth in different regions;
- differences in international incentives and regulations;
- the varieties of feedstocks being treated around the globe.
UK AD & Biogas 2016 will feature a range of success stories and case studies from all corners of the world – as well as a greater focus on R&D, innovation and the extraction of higher value products from the AD process.
International attendees to participate in UK AD & Biogas 2016
Alongside key figures from the UK government and AD industry, representatives from across the globe will be visiting, speaking and exhibiting at the event. The American Biogas Council will join delegations from Canada, Italy, New Zealand, India and others to share case studies and new approaches with visitors from around the world.
Internationally renowned companies including Siemens, GE Monsal and Air Liquide will also be showcasing their latest products and services.
The response to last year’s event was overwhelmingly positive, with 87 per cent of exhibitors and 90 per cent of visitors rating it as ‘good to excellent’ – 70% ofexhibitors from 2015 have already booked their stands for this year’s event.
HRS Heat Exchangers, International Sales Manager, Matt Hale, commented:
“The interest generated at UK AD & Biogas 2015 was significant for us, generating more than 100 business leads. We've had several meetings as a result and have now secured two firm orders for our Digestate Concentration Systems – one from as far away as the Philippines.”
UK is still an AD hot-spot with ongoing growth potential
With a thriving AD industry that has experienced an astonishing 600 per cent growth since 2009 (outside of the water sector), the UK is at the forefront of the global AD revolution. Incorporating over 430 agricultural, food waste, sewage and on-site industrial AD plants, Britain offers a wealth of technical AD knowledge and operational experience.
According to ADBA there is considerable opportunity for ongoing growth - the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) budget will almost treble between now and 2021 and could support up to 140 new biomethane projects.
The UK government is also actively looking at how to support biomethane in transport. ADBA is also flagging up current activity in the market, with around 90 plants (total of 65 MW) currently under construction. The Government’s independent adviser the Committee on Climate Change has also specifically recommended that biodegradable waste should be removed from landfill, and anaerobic digestion used to reduce emissions on farms.
Charlotte Morton, ADBA’s Chief Executive commented:
“The global commitment reached at the recent Paris Climate Change Conference to limit greenhouse gas emissions must now be matched in action by each country. This represents a huge opportunity for AD around the world. And with the UK already a European leader in food waste AD technology, and home to a thriving and robust biogas industry, we are well positioned to help build a world class AD industry.”
